Yard Manager / Dock Master

The Yard Manager / Dock Master is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the yard and dock area, ensuring the safe, efficient, and organized movement of vessels, cargo, vehicles, and personnel. This role involves planning dock schedules, supervising yard staff, coordinating with marine and logistics teams, and maintaining a clean and hazard-free environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate daily yard and dock operations including vessel berthing, cargo loading/unloading, and vehicle movements.
  • Supervise and lead yard crew, assigning tasks and ensuring safety and productivity.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with maritime and safety regulations (e.g., ISPS, port regulations, PPE standards).
  • Schedule and control vessel docking, mooring, fueling, maintenance, and departure.
  • Maintain clear communication with vessel captains, marine operations, and logistics teams.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of arrivals, departures, and cargo handling.
  • Oversee yard housekeeping, traffic flow, material storage, and equipment condition.
  • Conduct routine inspections of dock and yard areas, addressing hazards or maintenance needs.
  • Report incidents, near misses, or damages and support root cause investigations.
  • Optimize yard layout and resource usage for operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate with security personnel to maintain controlled access and safety protocols.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in yard management, dock operations, or marine logistics (7+ years preferred).
  • Strong leadership and team supervision skills.
  • Knowledge of marine operations, cargo handling procedures, and HSE regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate yard equipment (e.g., forklifts, cranes) is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of port systems and scheduling tools preferred.
  • Physically fit and capable of working in outdoor environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Marine Engineering, Maritime Studies, or related field.
  • Valid certifications in marine safety, rigging, or crane operations.
